Our Story

We're Leah and Luanne Vreugdenhil —twin sisters, builders, and daughters.

In early 2025, our mom was diagnosed with Trigeminal Neuralgia, a rare and unpredictable condition that causes sudden, intense facial pain. Without constant care, she was left to manage the pain, medications, appointments, and emotional toll — and she was exhausted.

The Beginning

It started on February 24, 2025. Our mom began experiencing stabbing pain in her face — intense and out of nowhere. Thankfully, Leah was with her and rushed her to the ER. She spent two days in the hospital while doctors tried to get the pain under control and understand what was happening. By the end of day one, we had a diagnosis: Trigeminal Neuralgia. But over the next day, as family and friends came in and out of the hospital room, we learned what that diagnosis really meant — no known cause, no clear path forward, and no cure.

Our mom is still in the early stages of this condition, and we know the road ahead will be unpredictable. But we're not waiting. We want to build something now — something that can support her as things evolve, and help her feel more understood, more equipped, and less alone.

That commitment sent us looking for answers.

The Journey

In the weeks that followed, we searched for answers. We poured through research, joined support groups, and listened to stories from others living with chronic pain. We realized this wasn't just about our mom — it was about so many people navigating invisible conditions, sometimes alone, every day.

One of the most powerful breakthroughs came not from a doctor, but from another woman living with Trigeminal Neuralgia. She had spent years battling the condition — through relentless pain, countless specialist visits, and endless rounds of trial-and-error treatment. Eventually, she found a medication that brought her real relief — one that's helped her manage symptoms for nearly five years.

That conversation gave us a head start. Our mom had already spent months on medications that weren't working. But because of this woman's story, we were able to advocate for a treatment change quickly — and it made a difference. Physically, our mom improved. But emotionally, the impact was just as strong — it gave her hope. A sense that there was a path forward.

Even with that breakthrough, the gaps were still there. It took luck, timing, and a chance conversation to get that insight — and that's what sparked our thinking. Stories like that need to be easier to surface, easier to share, and more actionable for the next person.

That moment inspired the community features at the heart of NOMI. But it also revealed something deeper: how disconnected, exhausting, and fragmented ongoing care really is.

That's why we're building more than a place to share — we're building NOMI to listen daily, connect patterns across behaviors, meds, sleep, and symptoms, and help users monitor and triage their own experience with more clarity and support.

"We are building NOMI for her — and for the millions of people living with chronic pain or conditions who are trying to make sense of what's happening in their bodies day to day."

NOMI helps people track what they're experiencing, spot patterns, and learn how others like them are managing and making progress. It's a simple, intelligent companion for people who need more support — and more clarity — in their health journey.

This is personal. And we're building it with purpose.
